Moving a 90 gallon reef--few questions..
Hey all I know I've been away from the site for quite sometime, But I'm going to be getting back into the hobby again and will be maintaining my tanks thy way they should.. I have a few questions though
So I'm moving my 90gallon reef up to Chico and I have a few questions.. I moved a 46g reef from Fresno to the bay area and only lost a shrimp but this time I have 3x the amount of live rock and close to 300lbs of fully matured live sand... Any suggestions on hos to remove the sand bed would be great... Also I've been kinda out of the hobby for awhile and they tank is a bit dirty.. The Sump hasn't been hooked up in a year or two and I only do water changes about every 4-6months... So the rock is fully encrusted but it's also got some gunk on it.. What would be a good way to clean it up?? I want to minimalize die off so that I don't have to worry about the tank cycling.. It's been setup for a few years and previously everything from my 46 went into it so it's a fully matured tank.. Luckily there only a few LPS and softies in there so I'm really not even worried about them. Only inhabitants are a yellow tang, a yellow tailed damsel, algae blenny and a big same size as my 4 year old tang purple damsel that will be put to death=) as soon as I can catch it during the move... Let me know any helpful tips and suggestions would be great.. Last time I had several styrofoam containers I got from a LFS after a new shipment and I used several rubbermaid containers. I plan on getting a 55gal garbage can full of RO up here and mixed up before hand so I'll have water for the tank.. How much should I plan on bringing with me? I remeber the last move I want to say I brought 50% or so of the water with me..I plan on doing all of this over a weekend time frame..
The tank and water inhabitants etc. will go in the back of my parents Yukon so I can keep the temps as stable as possible then I'll carry the stand and equipment etc. in the back of my truck.
Also when i go to set it all back up again, Is there a good process I can use??? I'm worried about nasty stuff in the sand and everything causing a crash.. If it does I can deal with it.. I've had a few crashes while being on vacation over the last few years and that's why the tank isn't quite as maintained as it should've been.. I do plan on hooking everything back up though. The REEFLAND 1200+GPH overflow I got from Scott way back when they had there business and I'll be using a 25gallon acrylic sump with a mag12 for return.. Any tips and suggestions would be great
Thanks a bunch
Dan
