Before Kalk and After Kalk (lime)
Just thought I would show these 2 full tank shots.
![]() This one was taken Nov 12th. This one was taken today, Jan 9th. Of course the corals have shown growth diuring this period too, but it is not so obvious as the Coralline Algae on the back wall. And I did add some "lift" to my LR and in so doing re-aquascaped too... Last edited by Poseidon; 01-09-2004 at 04:21 PM. |

For comparison sake, when did you start dosing the kalk and do you have a full tank pic showing the tank just before that date but later than the Nov. 12th pic?

YEAH the server is back UP!!!!
The Nov 12th pic is before I started using the lime. I started using the lime Dec 2nd, it took me a while to find it The small amount of growth you see there is from switching salts I think. I now use Crystal Sea Bioassay from Reefcrystals.Poseidon- How often are you dosing Kalk? and what rate? Yesterday 03:17 PM I started out dosing 1 Tablespoon in 4 gallons of make up water every other day, until my Ca and Alk came up to where I wanted them. 425ppm Ca and 8-9 dKh. I now use 1/2 Tablespoon in 2.5 gallons of fresh for my make up water. (which happens to be almost exactly what I lose to evaporation in 48 hours) THe rate I'm not exactly sure on. I drip it from a 5 gallon water bottle overnight. I think it takes only 3 maybe 4 hours tops to empty though. My ph has remained solid. In the morning B4 the lights come on, I'm at 8.1. Just before lights out I'm at 8.3. (I do have a 55 gallon fuge that is reverse lighting, I'm sure that helps.) The only thing that I can't figure out, is my Pocilliapora has really bleached and the polyp extension is not what it used to be. The other "acro" is doing great, excellent color and polyp extension, and my monti is doing well also. (I've even noticed an ever so slight growth starting) So any ideas on the Pocilliapora? ![]() Last edited by Poseidon; 01-10-2004 at 10:13 PM. |

Sorry hate to jump in on your post but maybe your may have some information to help me.Had a post earlier on dosing kalk but it has since been buried.Dosed afair amount 2 nights ago( 3/4 dose and 1gal. over anights period) and my main concern is when to dose again.Test just taken, alk. 7.0 dkh/cal 420ppm/mag.1250 ppm.Everything is pretty much in line except P.H.
Morning PH was about 8.0 and lights out was about 8.4.Now after dosing 1 good dose of kalk my PH starts at 8.4 and ends up at 8.6. None of my inhabitants seem to be affected by this but would like to know when to continue kalk use.By useing kalk will my PH continue to rise? My biggist concern is my clams.Sorry 1st time kalk user.Any input would be welcome. Please see my post on driiping kalk a few post ago, like next page. THANX AGAIN RAZZ |

No prob Razz... My pH typically ran a little low, so adding Kalk was a double benefit for me. I have read where adding a little Vinegar to the mix will help with saturation and pH fluctuations
