Talking setting up a 90 gallon above a garage??

Should I be concerned with setting up a 90gallon reef/25gallon sump. in a studio apartment above a 2 car garage??? Would the tank be too heavy and cause any kind of conern? I was thinking of placing it actually above the top of the two car garage door??? But then I started thinking about it and am wondering if it could cause any adverse effects?? Such as the tank falling through the floor? The house is brand new less than a year old but I'm still alittle concerned would'n't want a hole through the floor of my landlords apartment and my tank crashing onto his cars underneat. On the same token I don't want to jeapordize any of my livestock/tank/equip... Let me know what you think.. Thanks in advance

Dan

Yes I would be concerned. Make sure you find out what way the joists run and that your tank is perpendicular to them, so the load spread over 3-4 of them. Rather then PArallel and resting only on 1 joist.

Thanks.. I'm considering putting everything into a few smaller tanks because I'm fairly concerned about this.. I have a 46gallon and 18 gallon or 20gallon I could use.. I might just end up going to the 46gallon and selling off the rest of the Live Rock..

As long as you place it perpendicular to the joist you will be fine, especially if the area above the garage was built to be a living area. The key os to make sure the tank is spread across a couple of floor joists and not just one.

Thanks Scott. I think I'm going to set up another smaller one just to also have more room in there=) and give the 90 to my parents as a loaner and put a few tiger oscars in there..

i agree with this. you should be fine. my father in law has a 125 in the middle of a house that has a crawl space. with the house being so new, you should be able to contact the builder and talk to an engineer who designs them. ask them to be sure.
