underwater pics of sps from GBR
I Just returned from 3 weeks at the GBR and took some underwater photos while snorkeling one day (forgot the cam when diving!!) As we were on the top of the reef cliffs alot of the corals were stonies so I thought I'd put a couple of them up, these stonies were enormous and make anything else I've seen look like frags.
I hope you like them. Ps: I'm not a good photographer when the waters pushing me around so forgive anything that's a bit amateur. ![]()

I should add that the first pic above is only a quarter of the coral, as it was too big for my camera to fit it all in....
These next ones include pan shots, they're very blue do to the light but it gives an idea of the vastness of the reef, and I had to add a pic of a 40" clam (I know it's not a stony but what a clam...........)

I'm glad you liked the pics, when you see something as majestic as that, you want to share.
I hope you get the chance to see the reef too. I hope everyone does. I learnt alot by seeing the natural environments and developed an even deeper/profound respect for the ocean and it's inhabitants. I had already an enormous respect but something happens when you see it as nature intended/created without human intervention. And that was one mighty clam. the pic of the blue acro (who's color is faded in the pic) was 4 times as big as the clam.....

I have some of the idyllic beaches if you want???? And the signs that'll shock you. You can't swim in the sea in Cairns as the sharks, crocodiles and 30 different species of stingers will kill you so they have a 50foot by 50foot net enclosure to swim in but offer no guarantee that you're safe! I didn't swim in the sea on the beaches.......and when it's 27deg. cel. by 7am you really want to swim. I must say that the pools were lovely. (sorry I only know Aus measurement and scales) I have a pic of one of the biggest brain corals I've ever seen, about 27" I'll add it in, why not, I'm already a touch of topic.... If anyone wants a pic as screen saver, I use them and they look good, PM me and I'll send it too you.
