Lost My Mind??

I removed a couple of pieces of LR from my aquarium on Saturday. They were covered in Macro Algae and I wanted it gone. So............ I briefely lost my mind and decided to douse the rocks in Charcoal Lighter Fluid and set them on fire. Well, they burned well but I am wondering if they will be safe to reintroduce to my aquarium. If not how can I clean them? I have a Green Open Brain Coral and a Leather Coral in my tank at the moment. No fish right now. But my wife wants fish so they will be there soon.

THanks,
RB

I absolutely would NOT reintroduce them into the tank, too risky for me. If you wanted to clean the rocks thoroughly and rinse them thoroughly, it may be ok then, obviously at your own risk.

To clean them, you can try to soak them in water for a couple of days, scrubbing them well with a toothbrush and then resoaking them in clean water again. Personally, I would trash them and spend $20 or $30 and get a couple of new pieces of LR.

For future reference, if you wanted to rid your rock of macro algae (and all other life) you could pull them out and place them outside for a week or so and then do some cleaning on them before reintroducing them into your tank; it would be much safer this way.

That is what I thought. But as I said I suffered a brief moment of insanity!

Thanks for the help.
