    Talking Three new clams!

My birthday present from me to me arrived today. I ordered three new clams from Barry at Clams Direct. I got a 3.5" crocea, a 3" ultra maxima and a 2" gold maxima. You will have to use your imagination a lot because I wasn't able to get a good picture from above of the crocea due to reflections from the halides. And the appearance of the gold maxima from above is a lot different than it came out in the picture. The gold baby max is a bright pale gold/yellow and a dark maroonish brown. The third picture shows my new crocea from the front and the fourth picture shows both of my croceas from above (the new one is on the right).

In the second picture, just under the foxface, which one is that? It looks beautiful! Next time your taking some top down pictures, I'd love to see another one of those.

    Scott,

That's the 2" baby gold maxima. That's probably the closest I came to capturing what it really looks like from above. It's a very bright pale gold (almost yellow) with dark maroon-brown and a greenish edge.

It looks like a beautiful clam George, I hope they all do well for you. If it weren't for the light relfection, that would be an awesome picture of it!

Yeah, well Barry thinks mine looks nicer than that ugly M-5 that you ordered because mine was $6 more than M-5 and they're both 3", so there!

Yours has a much lighter gray border and it's more lavendar than blue. I don't know why anyone would want such an ugly clam as that but I guess somebody had to buy it.

Here is what my three clams looked like on Barry's website. Don't forget that he uses a good camera and he's shooting straight down without reflections to mess things up. He probably cheats and uses a tripod or something to hold the camera steady, too. The fourth picture is M-5. That was my first choice but some dirty rat snatched that one away from me before I could check out with it. I wonder who that could have been.

I can't beleive someone stole that one out from underneath you, I bet you were calling them all kinds of bad names. If only we knew who it was we could take a trip and snatch it from their tank for you..... I wonder if that dirty thief has anything else good in their tank that we might like to have?

Gene, our friend John K ( EMS503) received his clams today and he said the water temp was 79 degrees.

Opps. it wasn't John that told me that but he did receive his clams today. It was one of my customers in Wisconsin and it was 13 degree this morning when clams arrived.

I'm hoping for the best,Barry, and for a speedy truck driver tomorrow morning.

It supposed to start snowing tonight as well as temps to go down to single digits.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

    Gene,

Good luck with your shipment. On the other hand, maybe you shouldn't be buying a clam right now? Maybe it's too cold? Maybe you should cancel your order and wait until spring?

Just as I figured, my new ultra maxima jumped around during the night and landed up against my orange Montipora capricornis frags chipping one of them. Nothing serious, just a small piece broken off the frag. I put the clam back in place (at 3:20 a.m.) and so far it's still there. I hope I can get it to accept that spot, otherwise I will need to pick up a couple of small pieces of flat live rock locally and rearrange things to provide a better site for it. You can't exactly place a clam on top of that miserable Buna Spiney live rock.

    Ninong/Gene,

Those are ALL amazing looking clams (is there such a thing as an ugly clam?)

I ESPECIALLY like the gold max...

Gene -- the clam will be swell (it's freezing, isn't it??!). Barry will pack it up all snug like a -- clam! -- in a rug!
