Lava Rock
I've recently started my first Marine Aquarium. I used red lava rock as a back drop gluing pieces on the rear of the tank with aquarium cement. Now I've seen cautions about metals leaching out of the rock and poisoning the water. Has anyone used this stuff before? Has anyone seen a detrimental effect? ANyone measured metals leaching from the rock into the water. I've been considering switching to limestone. ANy thoughts? |

Hi Desertgeek and Welcome to Reefland!
There have been a couple of discussions on Reefland about lava rock but nothing was ever said if it is ok or not. It would seem to me that lava rock has the potential to contain metals and we obviously try to keep those from our tank so I would be inclined to avoid it and stick with what we know. ![]() Scott Z. |
