Just got my bubble tip in the mail-HELP!
Howdy, I am climatizing my new shipment to my tank, and have made the jump into getting an invertibrate. Bubble tip. From inspection of the baggie, the anemone has secured itself onto the side of the bag. I would like to get it out of there and onto my sand bed, but i don't want to harm it or cause stress.
Any suggestions? So far, I have cut the plastic bag around the anemone and put that on the bottom of the tank with a rock, hoping the anemone will unsuction itself off the plastic and walk around in my sand. Should I do anything else? Thanks, Salty -30 gal, 36lb LR, Just moved, so new tank is 2 months old. |

Hi salty1 and Welcome to Reefland!
How did you acclimate your anemone and why did you choose your first invertabrate to be an anemone? ![]() I'm not sure if you are aware of it but they are one of the most difficult animals to keep long term happy. And, they require specialised care and mature tank to be successful.Don't mean to be critical but felt that I should point this out. In regards to your anemone attaching to the shipping bag, it is easily removed by slowly peeling the pedal disk(attachment point of the foot of the anemone) away from the bag.All you have to do is slowly pry a small part of it with the edge of a credit card and peel it away ever so getly.About half way the anemone should release/detach on its own. Good luck!

Acclimated it the standard way I always have, lights off, temp 20min, slowly giving the bag my aq water, disposing of bag water, adding more water, etc. The standard way I would for fish.
Not my first invertibrate-rephrase, anemone. I've always had mushrooms, polyps, crabs, snails, sponges, etc. Thanks for pointing out that they are difficult, I know, my tank conditions are excellent right now and I finally got PC lighting, so I went with it. What would you think if I told you I just wanted it and Nemo the clownfish with my flourescent strip lamp? Just kidding. cheers, salty |

Anemone loving it
Update.... anemone moved by the time I had written my last post, has been moving for the past 24 hrs, now found a spot with it's foot planted between 2 rocks upside down, stretching up and back to the back of the tank. Yeah. If it doesn't move and likes that spot that I don't want it in, I'll try to reposition the powerhead and hope it moves to get back in the current. But it has expanded to be huge and is eating parts of shrimp like it is going out of style.
