Acro tips gone slightly white?

Acro tips gone slightly white?

A few days ago the tips of one of my acros went white but only on a few of the branches:

sorry about picture quality.

it has stopped going white, as i had lowered the lights about 3" and have raised them back up again and this was the only one that showed signs of change. Is this bleaching or is it the coral changeing colour (i already think i know the answer) but the polyps are still showing good extension and look happy. Is there anything i should do?

Its quite weird as i frag i took of it which i placed in a higher position showed no sighns of change?

Andrew,

The light color you see on the axial corallites is the growth, so stop worrying and playing with the lights
I know it's fun and all but I don't think your corals going to like it too much.

The light color you see is the new carbonate sceleton that those corallites are laying down.

That is the new growth. Many Acropora species will grow fast enough under the proper conditions that the tips will grow faster than the Zooxanthellae can populate. This will cause the tips to be a different color. They may turn bright blue under intense lighting (if you leave the lights alone long enough )

Cheers,
Kevin
