It's hard to say just by looking at the picture,Andrew. It's a bit out of focus but I think it could be a snail Stomatella varia. How is it behaving,ie. retracts into a hole/crevice, moves slowly,is it segmented or smooth?

It is great. Black is an unusual color for this type of sails. I put two black ones in my tank and end-up with black to tan Stomatella varia snails.

i thought the Stomatellas were very small, about the size of a bee-bee. i've got hundreds of these in my tank.
