I've never heard of this one specifically but $80 for a 4x55w PC setup don't sound too bad.

What do you guys think? This setup or the Smartlight 2-65 for $120. It would be nice to have the 220w but hate to buy something thats not worth having.

IF it is what it says then I'd buy it!! thats the risk with E-bay though, you can't see it or even return it sometimes

Between the 2 I'd get the E-bay fixture myself.

ONe thing I can say about the Jebo lights are the atenics are not really atenics but a blue. I know it sounds nutts but every one I have seen and sold I recomended that the blue bulbs be changed to the regular atenics.

but hey for 80 bucks I could live with it I guess

What about the 10,000k that comes with them are they comparable to the other 10,000k's? I ordered these last night so I guess I'll find out in a couple weeks.

No, I haven't heard of them. This is probably one of those instances where if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't. The price is entirely too cheap, even for just the four 55w PC lamps, which you will notice are included FREE. Whenever the lamps are included FREE, it means that if they are defective or burn out on you after a few weeks you have no refund due you because you didn't pay anything for them.

I hate to rain on your parade but there have been posts on another board about cheapy light fixtures with FREE lamps that didn't last very long. That's when the buyer learned that since the lamps were FREE, he wasn't entitled to a refund or replacement. I have no idea if this is the same fixture but this could very well be a case of "you get what you pay for." Just a little friendly word of warning.

Well as long as the fixture works. It won't be to big of a deal to change the bulbs.

Yeah but at $20-$25 a bulb, your looking at another $80-$100 if they do burn out quickly and that is what I beleive Ninong is saying.

What about the Coralife Aqualight Single Strip Light (48") with the 50/50 bulbs?

Personally I think your best bet would be a 2,3 or even 4 bulb VHO set-up. Again I don't think that what you are looking at on e-bay is a bad choice but as some have mentioned, the bulbs may burn out quickly and force you to get new bulbs.

VHO is more light than I,m looking for. Price wise anyway.

    Tattooedlife,

I decided to find the post on another board from 1/7/04 from a member whose board name on that board is LowCel:

I have the Jebo 4x55 watt pc for my 55 gallon. I have had it for about 2 months and I am ready to give it away. Actually one of my friends is taking it and putting it on his fresh water tank. The light seemed great at first and then I put a 55 watt pc on it that I bought from my lfs. I had it from when I had my 29 gallon tank. I think that one pc is as bright as the whole Jebo light. Also, after talking to some people I found out that this light is not UL listed which means that it is not gauranteed to be safe.

I hate to be the one that posts negative on the light I just want these things brought to people's attention. Also, from what I understand Jebo does not offer any warranty. The seller may but the company does not. Also, the light sockets are not permanently mounted. They just kinda dangle. My other problem with the light was that it has two switches but only one plug. It's kinda hard to set a timer to have the two lights come on at different times.

Oh yeah, when I purchased the light somehow ebay messed up and posted that I bought three of the lights. I called the ebay powerseller number and told them what happened. They told me that the seller could contact them and it would be taken care of. I told him what happened and what I found out and he was very unhelpful. He made me pay an additional 10% for each unit. If I didn't he told me he would leave me negative feedback. I paid him the extra money. I am not going to have my perfect feedback screwed up because of something like this. I did everything he asked. He never did leave me feedback even though I paid within 12 hours.

What can I say, I just wasn't impressed with the seller or the light.

Just my 2 pennies. Take it for what it's worth. All I can tell you is that once again trying to save money is going to cost me in the long run.

Looks like an honest assessment of what you might get for your $100 (that includes the $20 shipping). Perhaps it's a bargain, perhaps not. You be the judge.

P.S. -- There are some posts from buyers who seem pleased with what they got for their hundred bucks but there are also those who thought it was money down the drain that they could have applied to something better and safer.

Here is what ffc3 had to say on 11/16/03:

They are garbage. No fans. The bulbs are not true actinic so they would need to be replaced. They just have loose wires you have to attach to the bulbs instead of a mount like better lights have.

Thanks for the info. Guess I'm better off staying away from this light altogether. I'll just spend the extra $ and get the coralife 4x65. Thats what is so great about this board. Thanks guys.

I almost forgot to post the October 2003 thread started by LowCel prior to purchasing that JEBO light fixture:

Is this power compact light any good?
I am looking for lighting for my 55 gallon tank. At first it will just be fowlr but eventually I hope to turn it into a reef tank. Could you take a look at this light and tell me if it will do the job. It is 4x55w. It is a JEBO brand.

    Here is the link

So he did ask about it before he purchased it just as you are doing. A couple of people responded that it seemed like a bargain.

Has anyone had any problems with the Coralife Aqualight? I know most of you go MH and vho, but the pc's have to be a big jump from the no 40watts i have now.

I would agree that they would be a big improvement.

The best advice if money wasn't a concern would be to get an IceCap ballast which will run either PC's or VHO's, get the end caps and retro fit something into your own hood. The IceCap ballast are proven to last, they provide excellent service if there is a problem and it would give you plenty of light. However since you are on a budget, you could also look at some of our sponsors here and see what they have available. Aquatico and Innovative Lighting Solutions might have something for you.

I am on a budget, Or thats what my wife tells me anyway. My hood is one of the things I want rid of. Be nice to have the pc fixture with legs so I can just flip open the top glass and dive on in. My astrea snails are giving me a hell of a work. Have to take my hood off and flip one over atleast every other day. I think I'll put leashes on them, so when they flip upside down, I'll just give them a good jerk. Think that will work?
