New Crocea and I need Help

My new Crocea lost its Bysal while on the way home. What do I do now. I also took this shot of my Lobo that I thought was nice. All shots taken from above the tank.

That's not a good sign on a T. crocea clam. The byssal organ is more important to them. The danger now is in possible infection at the muscular attachment inside the clam. Are you sure you lost the byssal organ and not just a few threads? Croceas don't normally throw off their byssal organs like some of the other clams do as they mature. If it did lose the entire byssal organ then it was probably ripped during collection.

Wait for Barry to see your post and respond. He deals in clams.

I am sure, It was pretty big and there is a big hole in the bottom. At least the store is being good about it.

What you see was a bundle of byssal threads, not the gland itself. Often, when Maximal and Crocea have a huge thread bunndle that was cut, it release the whole bundle and make a new one. You see this as a tendon like piece of tissue smoothe on one end and frayed thread on the other end.
Tanke good care of your clam, he will make a new one and attach to rock quickly.

reewik, I agree with what Minh said. It should of been only the byssal threads and not the entire byssal gland. I think if it was the gland you would see stress or a dead clam by now. Also I wanted to add since this is a crocea clam and they are rock dwellers so if you can place a flat smooth rock or a clam half shell underneath the crocea to attach to and when you move this clam up to it's intended spot it'll be ready to go. It might try to attach where it is and then you have a crocea attached to the bottom of your reef and thats not good only due to crocea clams needing so much light.

Thanks all,

I have the clam where I want it to stay. You can take a look at the tank and see the location. I have noticed that it seem to be attaching to the rock as we speak. I have put some rocks around it a little to help keep it in place a little so it will attach. (Nothing big just small rubble) I looks like my clam is doing well!!!

reewik, the crocea clam looks fine. I think thats a great spot for it and it sure seems to have gotten over loosing the threads. Sounds like the clams also has already replaced the threads too. Lookin' good....
