Check out some of the Reef safe wrasses from Marine Center!!! They are absolutely GORGEOUS!!!

My wife and I are getting ready to start up our 180gal reef tank. We're planning on mostly sps/lps corals. The problem we're running into is What kind of fish we want to put in it. She is set on having 2 or 3 tangs in there, and I really would like to put a blue spotted jawfish in. Other than that, we have no sure things we want to have in there.
Any suggestions?
Pics or links to see what the fish look like would help.
thanks for the help

I agree with Mike, some of the wrasses are really spectacular.I would rethink the 2-3 tangs idea and maybe add a 1 tang(your choosing) and a nice colorful rabbitfish from the Siganus family.Marine center usually has some very colorful robbitfish as well.
Here's a good site to research fish http://www.fishbase.org/search.cfm
You can use either common names or the scientific if you know it.
Kind regards,
Gene.

I agree w/the above but realize a wrasse has pros and cons, I would try and avoid a wrasse atleast until you are 6mos+ into your tank so you can get a good healthy microfauna level for it to feed on...also I would try and get a wrasse that not only is beautiful but would serve a purpose of possible pest like flatworms etc. there are quite a few known wrasses that will prey on flatworms. Whatever your stocking level intentions are I would always leave room for a few more fish/animals that you may need to eradicate pest such as aiptasias etc. Other than that you have a fairly large tank so your not too limited on stocking levels. I personally like the schooling anthias idea. I think a foxface or rabbitfish as Gene mentioned is always a good addition to a reeftank.

Don't listen to Poseidon, he might talk you into a putting a Niger Trigger in there! :eek3:
Just joking Mike.

Actually our lfs has an awesome looking black hawaiian trigger that i would love to get (8-10") Unfortunatly the wife wants a reef not a predator tankWe've looked at a few wrasses, i think she has the tangs she wants picked out, saw a really cool batfish at the store too. I guess a dwarf angel or 2 might do. still trying to figure out what else can go in.
try this link, I get lost (in a good way) searching their fish selection daily, good advise too, for the most part.

I agree with a schooling idea. I have a 5ft 120 and love to watch my schools run about the tank. Of course that is a freshwater tank so a scholl is not limited by the wallet. Keep a thought that the bigger the fish gets the more he has the potential of knocking over in your reef. I am a tang lover so i cannot fault your wife!
LOL... I'm waiting for the manta ray coming in tomorrow....Poseidon gave me the large fish bug.Originally Posted by Reefland
