Hi,
I am new to this so bear with me. About 4 months ago, I purchased a Wellsophyllia Brain. Since that time, he has been doing excellent, no problems at all. However recently, I noticed at night while scanning the aquarium, his tissue is starting pulling off the skeleton exposing it about half a centimeter. He still opens to about 8 inches in diameter, but I know that this is not normal. He feeds at night fine, and seems happy. Water parameters are fine; but I have noticed that the cleaner goby who sits on him all day, has started to nip him every once in a while. It doesn't cause him to close just slightly retract and then expand again. I am concerned about the separation as i lost a brown torch 2 mths ago to the same problem; only he completely separated and floated around the take until the overflow got him. What can I do to reverse the damage or is it fatal? Please help me, I am desperate.

anybody have recommendations? it has progressively gotten worse.

Has anything changed in the tank priop to when you had noticed this? Also, for any of us to ascertain what is happening, we would need to know a bit more about your tank. You had provided information on your lighting and size of the tank but we would need to know your water parameters,if you have them handy.
As far as the goby goes, I would try moving the coral a little, away from the fishes burrow/teritory.
Kind regards,
Gene.

Salinity is 1.023
ph: 8.5
Calcium 400-450
Alkalinity 3.1
Temp 78
Nitrates 0-5
Phosphates less than .1
Also, the goby died months ago so, it doesnt bother it sorry for the confusion (My Scolymia ate it)
Also, here is a pic of the damage.
Also, my bubble coral started doing this a week ago anybody seen this happen?
I have had him for 1 year and he was doing fine until last week when he did this.
Hi anybody got any recommendations on the brain?
Have you done anything different with the tank lately? Different salt?
You stated PH of 8.5 Is this after the light have been on all day? Also test PH early in the morning before the lights come on and see how much of a difference it is. It shouldnt be that much of a swing.
The ph is about after a hour of lights on. No there isnt much of a swing.
I dont see any in the pic but have you seen any brown jelly like substance near these recession spots of the coral? Bacteria infection? You said you lost a torch, did you see any brown then?
Do you feed them?

You should test you pH at night, early morning and mid day to get a feel for the swing, 8.5 just after the lights come on might be a bit high.
What do you dose in the tank? What about feed? Could you tell us about the other corals and fish?
