Invert Questions

Hey,

What's the best way to feed a feather duster? I got one last week but not sure how to feed it. Also, I bought a piece of coral today from a tank with several feather dusters, and when I brought it home, I noticed there were 4-5 different baby feather dusters on the rock!!!!

Question 2...
How do you feed an anemone? I have what I think is a BTA, green tentacles on a pink base/foot. I have an Ocellaris clown in there too, has not hosted the anemone yet. I squirted some brine shrimp into the center of the anemone with a turkey baster, and it snatched some with its outer tentacles and folded in on itself. Should I feed something else, or is brine ok?

Question 3...
The BTA positioned itself in a hole between some LR...facing the front, but mostly shaded from the VHO light. Any tricks to putting it out in the open and keeping it there?

Thanks!!!

Most people don't target feed worms. They feed on plankton and organic particulate matter in the water. There should be more than enough for them to feed on in a thriving, well fed reef tank.

It is a good idea to target feed host anemones at least twice a week. If you do have an Entacmaea quadricolor, they eat almost anything. Try feeding it small pieces of fresh seafood a couple of times a week. How much you feed depends on its size. They will eat shrimp meat, clam meat, squid, scallops, fish, crab, krill, brine shrimp, silversides and lancefish. Just get whatever is cheap at the supermarket, chop it up and freeze it. I wouldn't fool with the silversides or lancefish until it is larger. You will have to place a small piece of seafood on it using tweesers or tongs or whatever else is handy.

Brine is not OK as the only food. Small pieces of shrimp, fish or squid would be better.

Leave it alone and consider yourself lucky that it is facing the front of the tank and not the back of the tank. They like to keep their base in the shade. It will adapt itself to its location on its own without any help from you or anybody else. I wouldn't consider moving it unless it is an an unacceptable location -- unacceptable means that you can't see it or where it is would require you to move nearby corals that you don't want to move.

Good luck,
