Feather Dusters and Tube Worms
Is it okay to cut off a portion of a feather duster’s tube? About ¾ of the tube is opaque and yellowish; the other is transparent and flexible-looking. In fact, it is curled up and rather limp-looking. I found a perfect hole in some live rock that I would like to make home for this feather duster, but that back end of the tube is making it very difficult if not impossible. Can I trim the curled part of the tube, so that I have a straight tube instead of a J-shaped tube? I would leave the cut about 1-1.5” from the opaque part. I don’t know a whole lot about invertebrates yet, but I’m learning!!!! It seems to me like the worm secretes its tube as it grows, and the old part of the tube gets left behind. Thanks!!!!
