Sunday night Pictures

I got these pictures of my tank tonight. Enjoy
My powder Blue is Hell on Wheel. He is only 2 inches long, newest tang in the tank, and is holding his own against three other tangs that are at least 4 inches each. A yellow, Purple and Powder Brown tangs. Only in the tank for 1 week, and he is always full and not a wound on his body. I can't say the same to the Powder Brown and the Yellow tangs. They are settle in now and will be fine from now on. Four tangs is all I am going to have in my 450 g tank.

I just love my CBB so much and he is soo photogenic, I got to post another picture of him.

I love Powder Blue's.... I had one years back, and he broke out in the worst ICH I have ever seen, haven't had one since.

Minh,

Beautiful fish, especially the Chelmon rostratus. I'm curious though about which fish you have that you are calling a Powder Brown Tang since that common name is used for two different species. I would like to get an A. japonicus when I get a larger tank. Some people call that fish the Powder Brown Tang, too. Is that what you have?

Here is a picture of a gorgeous adult A. japonicus that I saw in the Waikiki Aquarium's 5500-gal reef tank:

Thanks George. I mean A. japonicus. It is a more beautiful, and hardier than the other PBrown Tang A. nigrican

Is your Zebrasoma xanthurum tearing up your Z. flavescens and your Acanthurus japonicus? I believe that eventually your A. leucosternon will be the dominant surgeonfish out of those four species. I suppose you are already aware that your new fish is not from Indonesia, which is better as far as being less risky. The Indonesian variant has different barring in the caudal fin and it is a much darker blue.

George,
He is a very beautiful dark blue and is very aggressive like my old Powder blue tang. I am not aware of the differences of Pblue from various area. He will be the king of the tank in a few months. He is not bother any of the fish right now but does not run from the other tangs either.
IME, I have keep these same species in this very same tank before, plus a mimic tangs. In my old tank, the Mimic tang is the lease aggresive, and is the largest and oldest of the tangs, then the Yellow, then Powder Brown, then Purple and then Powder Blue tang.
These fishes are beautiful, and if one can keep them peacefully, the make the most beautiful combination of Tangs.

Minh,

The Indonesian Powderblue Surgeonfish doesn't have the white band running beneath the pectorals to the area beneath the mouth like the regular Powderblue. Also the Indonesian variant has bluer ventral fins and lighter coloration in the caudal fin. It is quite possible that it should be classified as a separate species. There are five pictures of it on page 27 of Surgeonfishes, Rabbitfishes, and their relatives by Rudie Kuiter & Helmut Debelius. On the facing page they have four pictures of the regular Powderblue. I just noticed that they are referring to the Indonesian Powderblue Surgeonfish as Acanthurus cf leucosternon.

I bought that book last week on the recommendation of 64Ivy (Mike Moyes). He has the complete series. I just bought that one and Rudie's Fairy & Rainbow Wrasses and their relatives. Interesting books -- very little text but lots and lots of pictures. In fact, their books are probably 95% pictures. They show a lot of the different regional color variations for many of the species.
