Hermit Crabs and the Reef tank

well i have a huge hermit crab with red claws.. this thing has grown to about the size of a golf ball or slightly bigger. is this reef safe with polyps and such?

i had one that size at one time and it used to knock over corals and then one day my yellow polyp rock which use to be covered with polyps was not covered anymore. but i have to say it kept my sand pristine.

well i ask because i caught him up onto of my rocks for the first time and standing on top of my polyps. he ran off when i flicked on the light and seems to be no damage yet, but looked like he was trying to get away with something LOL
