Question Filtration: Protein Skimmer and Gravel?

I just got a little Via Aqua tank to replace my Nanocube, and I am setting it up. It comes with gravel filtration, but I have a Prizm Skimmer for it. The protein skimmer should be enough I figure, with a fine sand bed and live rock. The gravel filtration in addition, would be too much biofiltration and would introduce too much nitrate right?

Hi PhilipWilk and Welcome to Reefland!

In short...yes, your reasoning is correct. All this large gravel or whatever can accumulate detritus and become a real nussance and it is very hard to keep clean. Live rock with a fine sand bed and good quality protein skimmer is all you'd need IMO.
