    LaMotte test for Ninong

when i pull in the chemical to the plunger/syrange. why would i add sections to the final result as told in the instructions? if i pull it in up to 0 and push out 80 as marked wont the remaining +4 still be in tip? they say to add that to the 80 but it dont make sense if it is still in there i only used 80. am i wrong? seems this would skew the results as well doing Calc test.

I believe I already addressed this question in your previous thread by telling you that my instructions say no such thing.

Maybe you will need to type out exactly what you are reading so that I can see why your instructions are different from my instructions because I can't figure out what you are asking about.

sorry to keep buggin you.. on my Alk test it does not say anything. but in the instructions for my calcium hardness test it says under step #6 plunger tip couns for 3 divisons " Example. Plunger tip is 3 minor divisions below line 80. Titrator reading is 80 plus (3 divisions x 4) equals 92. Multiply by 5.76. Test result would be 474.72.

maybe i bought the wrong test. is calcium hardness same as calcium level?

You are simply misunderstanding their explanation.

They are trying to explain how to read the Titrator scale. Look about 1/2" higher up in that same paragraph and you will read: Read the test result where the plunger tip meets the Titrator scale.

They are not talking about the pink tip thingy on the bottom of the Titrator. What they are talking about is the green inner plunger that moves up and down inside the Titrator. They want you to take the reading where the bottom of the round disc stops on the scale. Then they figured they should give an exact example for customers who couldn't figure things out if the disc did not stop at exactly 60 or 80, etc., so they are trying to tell you that each little fine line between the numbers 60, 80, 100, etc., represents 4 units (there are five spaces between 80 and 100, each space = 4 units).

Therefore, in their example, if the bottom of the green plunger disc rests 3 spaces past the number 80, that means your reading is 92. I have no idea why they felt compelled to try to explain that but who knows. It's like assuming that people can't figure out how fast they are going if their speedometer needle is positioned between the whole numbers on the dial.

fist off.. thank you very much for being so patient with me on this.. i thought they meant the adapter tip (pink thing) but it didnt make sense if i took in to the 0 on the scale regardless how much i used acording to the scale it would be same as long as i left tip on during entire test. so that clears it up for me .

i wish they included a chart like the alch casue my blue might differ from theirs. i tested my freshwater last night with 110PPM result and mixed saltwater not in tank yet with 410PPM and tank tested at 575PPM again. but ill leave it alone and see if it comes down.. seems high but i even stopped test on color still a bit more purple than blue this time.

again thanks.. this really helps me now.

I hold the vial up to natural light (I open the blinds on the huge window behind my computer) and I notice a very distinct blue color once it reaches the endpoint. The endpoint blue has no purple in it. It is a clear, bright royal blue. It takes a few tests before you get the hang of it.

If I am running the tests late in the evening, I hold the vial up in front of the metal halides -- which is how I read my refractometer at any time of day.
