Looks like common toadstool leather to me Sarcophyton sp..

They adapt easily to many lighting schemes and prefer moderate flow. Sometimes they close up and shed a mucous tunic, so don't panic if you see this happening. It should bounce back after the shedding.

    Looks real good so far.

    Kind regards,

    Gene.

Thanks gene! My tank has only been up for a year or so and it has been mostly fish and I'm just starting to populate it with more softies and lps.

For feeding softies do they just take phytoplankton, like DT's? Or is there anything else you have to supplement? Thanks again.

Also someone has donated an alveopora to my tank and was wondering if anyone had advice. I was looking to get one in the past and people on reefland advised against it and now I was kind of forced into adopting the one I have which I would like to keep as long as nature allows. Are there additional supplements that I should be adding for such coral? The only thing I put in my tank right now is ESV B-ionic Calc/Alk buffer. Thanks again

    Ryan,

I think that Ca++ and Alkalinity additives is all you need for your tank. That is if you are monitoring and testing your water.
DT's are fine food for the filerfeeding corals but not many will utilize it,except the filter feeders like clams or feahterdusters and many, many other tiny organisms in your tank. In turn, they will spawn and probably feed your other corals and in general contribute to the production of zooplankton.
Alveopora is rather difficult coral to keep but since you already got it,I'd place it in a very moderate flow and make sure that I feed my tank with DT's phytoplankton and some other food containing zooplankton.

Good luck and please post of your progress or if you need additional help.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.
