Acanthurus lineatus

I managed to get half dissent shot of my Acanthurus lineatus couple of dys ago, believe me it was not an easy task. This fish is a regular speed demon. He's starting to hit his growth and I'm afraid I'll have to try to trap him soon( don't ask me how I'm going to manage this...I don't know )

Nice Tang

Very nice looking Tang Gene it looks in excellent condition.
Being a master fisherman myself Ive got a few tips for you on OPERATION TANG REMOVAL i wouldnt try my patented bottle removal method with a tang of that size and you really must tread lightly cause once spooked with any sort of device or trap they become very wary. So you could perhaps make a box maybe and get him hungry enough to go in .Could be possible but unlikely not. I have in a extreme case had to resort to a very small fishing hook that i still had to crimp to make a bit smaller ,eg Baitjigs and polevault his pretty little butt out.
As you are no doubt aware they sometimes hide out in rock work at night maybe you could surround him in some netting and remove the rock .
Good luck

Acanthurus lineatus info?

Cool photo.

I've got a juvenile in a friends tank while I get my act together and set my tank up.

What kind of requirements does this tang need? They're one of my favourites.

Thanks.

CurvBall,

Be sure to note that Gene said he is going to have to trap him soon.

This is a large, very aggressive species with a venomous caudal spine that is extremely active and difficult to keep in anything less than very large tanks (~500-gal).

Here is a link to its page on FishBase: http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Spec...sname=lineatus

Here is a link to its description on WetWebMedia: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/badacanthurusaq.htm

Thanks for the links Ninong.

I see Gene has this tang in a 110g right?

I just thing they're really awesome with the horizontal lines on it's body. I guess my favourite fish will just have to wait untill I get 'that big tank' we all dream about.

My current tank I'm working on will be in the region of 90-120g, not sure just yet but I guess no Acanthurus lineatus for though.

The reason why I have a juvenile is because we caught it about 2 weeks ago while diving. I also managed to see roughly 3 or 4 adults munching algae off the rocks. The little guy is currently in a 180g(?) system and is the fastest fish in there! My girlfriend refers to him as 'speedy'

Anyway, enough babble, work to do.
rock n Roll.

Hi All,

Thanks for your kind words on my fish but George is right. One of the reasons I need to trap him is becouse he's going to get very large soon enough and my dream tanks is just that, a dream for now I bought it in hopes that I'd be able to set up a tank in the 300+ gallon size soon,well....
He's still a juvie and not very agressive...yet but I noticed that he started to grow much faster now and will need that room for swimming soon enough.
I've got him close to two years ago when we was not even two inches long and he's 3" now and growing fast.
So, I'll try to catch him when I have some free time...I know where he sleeps

Here's another couple of shots I took this morning. In one of the pics you can see my Premna paying close attention to him, they have love/hate relationship No serious battles but Premnas is keeping an close eye on him lately.

Thats a GREAT fish Gene!!! I think the best shot you have of catching him will be when/if you decide to RE-Aquascape... A fish that FAST is near impossible to catch in our tanks that have so many places to hide....

Gene,

He's such a great looking fish! Good luck catching him. FWIW, Anthony Calfo always suggests draining the water level down to 4 or 5 inches. Give him less room to run. He swears you can catch most fish that way within 5 minutes. It's how I get fish out of the quarantine tank and into the main system, but there's only coral skeletons in there as company for the fish -- nothing live.

Thanks,Minh. He was about 1.5" long, maybe a tad longer but not much
He's slightly over 3" right now and his growth rate had accelerated,I guess he's beginning to mature and will be growing fast now. He's still not agressive at all and takes food from my hands but I've noticed that my Premnas started to pay close attention to him and giving him a notice when he's getting close to her territory. Not much of a problem yet. I've been lucky with all the fish that I got in there so far. People been having problems with coral beauty angels and clams but mine is such a docile fish that even chromis giving it a hard time sometimes
