My first Clam

Hi all just wanted to show off my first clam She is a T. derasa. I got her from my lfs and she seems to be doing well the first day. I have her in my 110 gal reef with a 4-5 inch sand bed under quad 140 VHO's(actinic) and triple 175 metal halide (2-10k, 1-20k). Sorry about the quality of pictures great camara, bad preson taking the picture.

Cool clam... Does this look more like your tank lighting? If you have Adobe Photoshop, try using "auto Levels" it will usually correct the white balance for you, if not there is a cool "coffee filter" trick I can share...

Ya looks better you know i used photoshop to resize and never thought of that.

She's a beaut,Jason. Good luck with your first clam,I'm glad you picked the hardiest of the Tridacnas. Beware though, it will grow rapidly if provided enough calcium and good water quality

What is the most rapid rate you have had a T. derasa grow? I think ours added 1" in 4 months.

I would say about the same as you had. It sort of grew first months real fast and then tapered off to about 1/4-1/2" in a couple of month.My latest squamosa was not growing for a few month but now had picked up and laying a new shell fast...will definately outgrow my tiny 75 soon enough
