green lobster in acro?

green lobster in acro?

i was looking at my tank this morning and saw this bright illuminous green lobster? . I had seen something in the acro that was green before but i thought it was a mithrax crab, although i did see a small acro crab when i saw the green lobster.

do you guys know what it is and whether its fine in there?

ps sorry about picture quality , just the other side of the tank.

If you have a pistol shrimp, one claw will be much larger than the other. Their noise can be disturbing but usually they won't bother other crustaceans and molluscs if they are kept well fed, although they are certainly capable of causing trouble in that area.

I have seen these as well. I think they are similar to the acro crabs, some live in coral colonies and provide the same type of functionality to those acro crabs. Cool little creatures.

I would venture to say it is not a Pistol Shrimp since they are usually found burrowing in the substrate. I believe it is Green Acropora commensal shrimp
Coralliocaris graminea . Just my opinion.

I agree with Marco. It's most likely this one:

Andrew,

Why do you think it looks like a crab? It looks much more like a shrimp to me.

Yes it is. Commensal shrimp. Looks more like a shrimp than a crab to me. Those are some nice close up shots.

thanx decided i need to know what species of shrimp......wow i wrote the right one this time...... it was, so moved the acro colony to the front of the tank and then quickly moved it back, was at the front for 5 mins at max. I know i shouldnt really move it around like that but i thought it would be okay and it has and now i know what the shrimp is

Great close ups Andrew!

There always seems to be more cool stuff that I have never seen before! THat's why I love this hobby!!! By the way, I heard a couple SNAP SNAP's in my tank last night... Sounds like I have either a PISTOL or Mantis FOR SURE! I'll bet that is the culprit that ATE my Purple Linkia and keeps dining on my snails!!!

hey mike glad you like the shots, i think some of my best so far

yeah if stuff is getting eaten then i would guess it would be a pistol or mantis. but then i thought i had one untill i saw this guy as he was snapping at a acro crab, well i think it was him but im not sure it could of been the crab? but i saw the shrimp go towards the crab who has a little hole he hides in with the claw sticking out and then a snap and the shrimp sort of did a little jump, so how did the snap? your guess is a good as mine.

i hope you find the culprit and have a nice kabbab
