I hope the picture opens now. Earlier it wasn't but is now.
The star is shaped just like the linkias but it's a rust color with a little orange underneath. Hopefully the picture will open. Thanks in advance. |

Tee,
I'm not sure what it is either It could be Linkia but it could be Echinaster, which is an omnivor star and should not be trusted in the reef tank.Although, there are Linkia stars that are orange in color but I just can't tell them appart looking from the top.Look here for very interesting conversation between Bob Fenner and a person trying to ID very similar starfish. here's an image of the Echinaster luzonikus. http://www.starfish.ch/photos/echino...-luzonicus.jpg

Thanks Gene, the guy I got him from said they get them in as feeder stars and he couldn't remember the name but he knew they wouldn't eat my corals. I've been getting stuff from him for quite a while and have known him for several years so I trust him. He said he would try to look up the name but has been swamped lately.
Thanks again for the helpful info Gene. Do I need to turn him over and take a pic of his underside? Last edited by Tee; 03-19-2004 at 09:35 PM. |

I appreciate the advice. Joe told me they got them in as feeders but I didn't catch what he said he was feeding them to. He was really swamped yesterday so I didn't get to talk to him much. He said he'd try to get the name for me tomorrow. I posted a thread over at RC but haven't gotten a response yet.
Thanks again Gene I really appreciate you helping me out. |

OK someone just posted a response over at RC, he said it looked almost identical to his red linkia. I posted the question in the reef section, should have posted it in Dr. Ron's. RC doesn't like double posting so I'll wait and see if Joe can get me the name or some else chimes in. If I get nothing I'll ask Dr. Ron
