Labodda Wrasse??

Anyone heard of these guys? I saw one of these at a lfs and havent been able to find any info on them. Looks some what like a fairy wrasse of some sort, not as brilliant of colors but its a interesting fish and would like to know a little bit more on them. None of my books have them and I ran a search on yahoo and got no matches. Anyone know what im talking about?

Jon,

Can you find out which Genus it belongs to? For instance, fairy wrasses from genus Cirrhilabrus have a species named C.lubbocki, which are quite colorful by the way. I'm not sure I ever heard of Labodda wrasses but then again, there are lots of things I never heard off

Well I went to the marinecenter link and didnt see it but i can describe it a little. If you look at pyles wrasse, it has that body shape but the face is pink/orange the body is lavander the dorsal fin is yellow and the tail is purple and at the tip of the tail its yellow. Very active fish. I called the guy and he has no idea what genus its from. Thats all I got....any ideas?

You are probably talking about Laboute's Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus laboutei).

The one pictured on The Marine Center's website is not exactly typical. The dorsal fin is usually more yellow than that. Coloration between sexes and between juveniles and adults is pretty much undifferentiated in this species but there is some regional variation and please bear in mind that some vendor's enhance the pictures on their websites.

The reason that I am 99.99% sure that this is what you are talking about is because you are phonetically spelling it's name: Laboute wrasse!!!

Besides, all of the Cirrhilabrus genus wrasses have similar body shapes and if the one you are talking about is the same shape as another species of Cirrhilabrus and it sounds like "Labodda," then there are no other possibilities.

BTW, I checked all of the possibilities in Rudie Kuiter's Fairy & Rainbow Wrasses and their relatives before posting.

Well you have out done me once again Ninong. I too was looking towards this one because of the phoenetical spelling. I really thought that too because the guy is from China so i figured his dialect to my ears might impact the spelling as well thanks ninong.
