My problem is I've solved my handon over flow problem(what to buy)
I just purchased a 75Gal bow front allglass with built-in mega overflow(ya ho) My RO unit will be in on Monday afternoon for the water, I can get some well water if need be(this is the same water thats in my tank now). I do have a 15 gal quarintine tank set up. My ultimate goal is to put the 75 were the 55 now stands. To begin my existing setup: 55 gallon long hang on seaclone skimmer hang on empor 400 filter 250 watt heater sub 45lb figi live rock 1.5-3 inch sand sub 1 cleaner shrimp 1 yellow tang 2 yellow tail damsels 60+ assorted snails and crabs. 1 tree spong 1 green star polyp I'll list out may plan and would like for all to interject any comments... 1. move the spong with few peices of live rock to quart. 2. move the polyp to quart. 3. move yellow tang and shrimp to quart. 4. fill five gallon pails with live rock and aquarium water. (might as well put the power head in with them.) 5. fill another five gallon with about 6 inches of my sand and many snails and crabs as possible... 6. put remaining sand into bucket. 7. move tank Set up new tank 8. lickity split the new tank is setup... 9.... 10... I'm not sure at this point if I should put all my old sand back in or just add the 6 inches or so that I plan on saving to the top with the crabs and snails..? I have another 100 lbs of sand waiting to be washed out... Will there be a big benifit in using a large portion of my old water.? or is mixing up a new batch good...? I have so many questions... May be I'll post some pictures of my before, during, and after... Wish me luck. Nick

Before you jump into setting it up, what do you plan to do for a sump and return pump?Quote:
![]() 1. Ditch the seaclone and get a good skimmer that will go in your sump. 2. Ditch the emperor. 3. The 250w heater is nice, I like to run 2 heaters in my sump just in case 1 fails. 4. 45lbs of rock is a good start, but your going to need some more. 5. Get some additional new sand. Quote:

I'm a newb so I'm not much help. But I can tell you that's an awesome Tank IMO. I have the same one and just getting started with it.
BTW, is that a 75 or 72 Gal? Myne is a 72 Gal All Glass bow front. I didn't know they made a 75. Anyway... GL! |

Hello, thanks for the info,
(Tie) - Your correct it is a 72, my mistake. (Scott) - I really cannot dump the skimmer and filter yet, but soon... What would you recomend for my situation for the each...? I'm assuming your going to sugest a inline filter so all water is filter...? I have a 42 gal rubbermaid (overflow protection) which I planned on putting a 10 gallon glass tank in for the sump. I have been looking for a design for the sump, I will get 1/4 plexi for whatever divisions... I have puchased a Mag 700 for the return pump, this was sug. by the LFS. Is there a way I could use my current filter and skimmer until I have the extra cash for the right ones..? Thanks everyone.. Nick

Hey Nick,
Well it goes to the "do it right the first time" statement. You can use what you have but it can complicate the addition of a new skimmer later. My suggestion would be to continue running your 55 as is until you have everythng together for the new 72. ![]() |

Ok Ok,
I'm looking at the Eheim Professional II Filter(2026) or the Eheim Wet/Dry Canister Filter (2227) They are the the same $$, so I'm really confused which is my best choice...? Then back to that darn skimmer, What would be my most cost effective choice? Hellp I'm additcted. Nick

Nick,
You do not need the Eheim or any other type of mechanical filtration other than the skimmer. The liverock, sandbed and skimmer (along with normal maintenance) will take care of your water filtration. ![]() Scott Z. |

Ah, I'm beginning to under stand this a little more.
I'm then thinking, buy another 40lbs of LR when things are set up. I'll keep working on my sump layout then. Thanks Nick
