proper setup for anenomes???

OK, im kinda switching over to a reef tank, and will have my first anenome coming in a little more than a week. I have been searching to find what kinda water conditions/suppliments they need but have not had much luck. I know that if its not happy it will keep moving around the tank, and they like moderate flows.... other than that what should i be testing my water for in particular to make sure i have the most comfortable environment for this guy...

I have one other concern... my koran angel. currently it dosent bother the frags that were placed in the tank a couple weeks ago, i was told that he may pick at them and kill them. but he ignores them. will he be more aggressive towards the anenome? I plan on getting a Maroon clown also.. which from what i understand should help protect the anenome once aclimated to the anenome.

75g tank
dual 150w HQI 10k
NO anctic
sump
skimmer
other goodies....
moonlighting....

The key to anemones is providing them plenty of light, occasional feedings and plenty of room inside an aqaurium with excellent water conditions. They do not require any "special", but good water conditions with plenty of light. It looks like you have the lighting covered but tell what about the water conditions? How long has this tank been set-up and it sounds like previously it was a FO?

You didn't say which species of anemone you are getting?

Oh, well. first of all my experience...
started in fish about 15 years ago when i was in gradeschool..... kept them up untill about 4 years ago when i moved. of that 15 years only 1 was with SW, the last year. I bought the tank off of someone else that was moving, and he had the tank up and running for a little more than 3 years. All the substrate and rock (only1 5g bucket LR) was transfered in water, along with 58 gallons of that water...

tank has been in my place with the same fish that he had now for about 3 months. I added 3 frags about 2 weeks ago. there was a bit brief funk with the tank because of low salinity but everything is coming back i lost 2 snails that i am aware of, amonia still at 0. nitrates are bout 20, nitrites 0, ph 8.3 dKH 14.. that last one is worrying me.

im getting a Rose bubble tip... was previsouly FO. in the pics you can see the fish that currently reside... and also 2 of the corals. sorry the pics aint that great. im still getting the hang of the digital camera and settings with the fish tank..

Entacmaea quadricolor is the best possible choice for Premnas biaculeatus, so you should be fine in that department and yes, the Maroon will protect the BTA against all comers.

You are probably already aware of this but I thought I would point it out for anyone else who may not realize that you cannot keep an adult Pomacanthus semicirculatus (Koran Angelfish) in a 75-gal reef tank. You will have to find a new home for it once it starts to change into adult coloration at about 6". There are two reasons for this. The most obvious is that it gets much too large for anything smaller than a 375-gal or larger tank and the other reason is that its diet changes once it grows out of the juvenile stage.

Juveniles are primarily herbivorous but adults eat sponges, tunicates, corals, crustaceans and molluscs in addition to algae. Here is the fishbase link, be sure to note the adult size: http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Spec...semicirculatus

yea. i knew about this, i have several people that are ready to take him off my hands. but for now hes providing a lot of color/life to my tank, and hes not bothering anything... he came with the tank, the guy that i got the tank from was just gonna put him outa his misery. but i said heck no, hes a awesome looking fish, and quite a pig i must add. he fights with my shrimp when i feed... they kinda push him around. its kinda funny. the koran is very docile. im more worried about my domino damsel, which is bigger than that koran.. hes a monster.there is a pic of the two.. the damsel is very fat... more than twice as fat as the koran... ne way. somthings going on in the tank. ive killed 2 snails in the past 2 days. whats up with that. all params seem to be ok.. i will have to jump into this in the morning.

WOW. well i purchased a gold stripe maroon a couple days ago. and was tryig to get him aclimated to the tank and his souroundings. he was about 2.5-3" i was hoping he would hold his own in the tank. wrong.... the damsel kept picking on him. then it looked like he lost his slime.. that was the end of him... i took the damsel to 2 stores... the first didnt want him cuz he was too big. second gave me 2.50. SCORE!!!

I also put in my Anenome Today. that little guy opened up within 15 minutes. he came outa a 29g tank which was pretty full. He has not moved from the place that i placed him! i figured i would give him a little snacl before i went out.(he was in the tank for about 3 hours before feeding) and he devoured the shrimp.

I have a couple questions now. The previous guy said he would feed it some shrimp every 3 days. sounds good to me.... I was wondering what the different shapes of the tenticles mean... when i put him in, before feeding his tentacles were long and full... now after feeding, the are shorter and plump. Is this a good thing, or is it stressed somehow? The coloring on thes guy is amazing and i really dont want to lose him! I will post some pics in a day or two.

Anemones can do a lot that seem strange. It is not unusal for anemones to pull in tight as they expell water( they are mostly water). Some say this is a way to get rid of waste. The tenicles do change in lenght and thickness from time to time. From my experience this all seems normal for them. Mine will have the bubbles on the tenicles sometimes and sometimes they do not.
