screw this!, im really thinking about just giving up... this hobby is insane, there is so much money involved just to keep a tank up and running, i really dont have enough money to get this to tank to how i want it... my dad wont pay for anything else, and probably have 40$ on me right now, and i dont even have a RO filter to produce water, i have to go to the store every once in a while to pick up water, again more money, and i cant afford a filter becuase i have no $$. and i still need an overflow, and a pump for the sump i made... oo sucks for me.. looks like i have no money! , i guess i wont be having a sump. and i just found a REALLY good deal with this one guy and i cant get the light fixture from him becuase i have no money!, and after this i bet i will never be able to find a good deal liek this ever. WOW im really upset, i thought aquariums were sopposed to be peaceful, and not cause all of this stres...Since i bought this tank my grades in school have been going down, but recently i have brought them up a lot, so hopefully i will be doing better. i just dont know what to do anymore, i bet some of you will say oo your taking it to fast and slow down, but I KNOW that already, i just wish this hobby wasnt so expensive, and i could find people out there willing to help stupid newbs out like myself with some supplies, i guess not. sorry everyone for my whining but i just had to get it all out of my system.

to save money u really don't need the overflow and sump that will save you about $200. this hobby can be fun only if you have the ablity to take things slow. make everything simple. sump just give extra volume and hid equipment, and can convert in to a fuge. did you add any more rock? because the rock can be all your filtation needs. some hobby just use LR and a skimmer for filtation. just remember "Take your time"

i still only have 18lbs of LR because i cant afford anymore, and i have a cpr bak pak running all the time, i guess i will haver to wait untill i get a good paying job to get my sump running, thanks for the help

When I was younger and I really wanted something I rember doing just about anything to earn the extra money. Mowing Lawns, Landscaping, Lifegaurding, baseball referee, city clean up crew, etc. Even with the little pay I did get minimum wage was $2.50 an hour. I managed to scrape by and get the things I wanted.

I have had an empty tank since December. It took me a month to get enough money just to build the stand, not buy build. Another month to build the hood with all the lighting, another month for the sump, I still don't have a pump or any plumbing run. I know your frustration. I put Molly's in my tank just to see something swimming. It'll be May or June before I have live rock in the tank, and maybe July or August before the tank is cycled. So maybe in 6 month's I'll have my first fish in the tank.

You have a running tank, you don't have to try and make every change in a month or even 6 months.

hey thanks alot meric, i hope everything is going good for you, ive heard a lot of people tell me to slow down, but i just cant help myself! haha i mean who can in this hobby, and i just found a really good deal on this hqi fixture and i really dont want to pass this oportunity up.

Well you have your tank set up and it is running with a fairly decent skimmer with some liverock and a couple of clowns. That is a decent start!

You should take the opportunity to read and research every aspect of this hobby while you don't have anything to tinker with your tank and enjoy watching your fish grow. The growth and health of our animals is what it's really all about so enjoy what you have until you can move on to bigger and better things.

I know you really want to do a SPS reef tank, but Reefland is right. Enjoy your tank the way it is at the moment. I'm sure you'll come by another deal with the HQI light, and possibly with the overflow and return pump, it may not be next week, but sometime in the future. But seriously, don't get so stressed because you want things for your tank but can't have them at the moment, just enjoy your very own little ocean the way it is. A coral reef doesn't just appear, it grows and spreads with time. I'd suggest sitting in front of your tank when the lights are off with a flashlight, and check out all you critters crawling over your rock. That alone keeps me satisfied with my tank. Just relax and take it easy, dont make it frustrating on yourself.

alright, from now on i will go slow... kinda hard for me to say that haha anyways i think i will be getting that hqi tommarow, my dad finally areed that it was a good deal and we shouldnt pass it up. but once my bros friend lets me start working, the first 100$ i make is going to my dad, hes paid and done so much for this tank already, hes bought everything except for the tank itself. i wouldnt even be on this website or even have a tank set up YET, if it werent for him, so i really need to pay him back all thats hes let me borrow. i found a job to start paying my dad off, and to get things i need so im pretty excited about that. i also just wanna say thanks to all of you, you guys have helped me out so much.
