What is This??

I have this thing in my tank that I cannot Identify. This tank has been set up in it's current location for 3 years. I "Let the tank go" for the last year only doing periodic water changes and topping off evaporated water. In the last 3 months I have been treating it like it should be. I added a Kole Tang, some Mushrooms, and have been providing regular maintenance such as weekly water changes. Basically I am doing the things I should have ben doing all along.

This thing appeared after a LR Rearrangement. Can someone tell me what it is and if I should remove it or let it grow. It has been growing at a rate of about 2 inches every month.

Thanks

It looks like some type of red algae to me and I for one and no fan of red algae. I would remove it being very careful to not break it up allowing it to float and land somewhere else to attach and start growing. If it is growing at that rate it may turn out to be problematic.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will clip it tomorrow (Too much Bourbon to be messing with the tank tonight!). Also, the white spots on the algae is sand. I rearranged the LR this afternoon and some got on it.

Once again thanks!

After the problems we've experienced with red algae, I will always lean towards the cautious side and remove it rapidly.
