New Kole Tang Hiding--added with yellow
recently downsized my system from a 90gallon reef to a 55gallon sps/mixed and a 46bowfront FOWLR and a 6gallon nano--
I have a small yellow tang that I've had for 4 years he's about 4"-5" in my 55--I just added a small 3-4"Kole tang yesterday that has pretty much been in hiding every since. I turned off the MH's on one side of the tank when I acclimated him yesterday and he would occasionally pop out of the LR. I haven't seen him do a full tank swim in front of the rock yet. My Yellow(the little punk that he is) He previously killed a gold rim in my 90g. Isn't too happy he's been trying to show who's boss and just kinda pestering the Kole. I though for awhile they were going to be ok but last night I was peaking behind the LR and noticed the kole underneath the overflow and the Yellow behind him with fins at full flex=).. should I wait it out or should I remove the yellow and put it in my 46? or trade to someone with a larger tank. I really would like if they would get along but if not would rather keep the Kole based on his coloring alone..=)-- Now Tang Police.. I will be upgrading in the next year to year or two to a minimum of a 180-240g Reef.. Just don't have room in my apartment....

I think it would be advisable to simply remove one of the tangs. An established YT is a formidable opponent to almost any fish. Keeping them both will likely result in overstressing the kole, causing it to have health issues. Hold of until you actually have the larger tank before attempting a second tang

I agree. Remove one of them soon. I too had a Yellow Tang and added a Kole Tang a couple of years ago. The Kole hid a lot. I was out of town for the weekend and came home to a dead Kole. The yellow killed it.
The Yellow has since died and I now have only a Kole. It is mych more interesting than the yellow ever was.

Well I ended up having to remove all the LR and corals but I got the yellow out of there he's now residing in my 46g bowfront where he started out 4 years ago=)
Just him and a big damsel in there with my red serpent star.. The kole is out and about now.. I added a Potters Angel on Friday and the Kole chases him a little but not enough to stress him out of anything,.,
