Hi Jasace, Welcome to Reefland!

A Q-Tank can be set-up with the very basics. A regular flourescent light, a power filter (like a Whisper Brand), heater, a powerhead and some type of liverock or decoration to give the fish someplace to hide if they feel the urge. In the power filter, you can run carbon or filter floss to keep the water clean.

Remember here that the purpose is to have an external place to treat sick fish or quaratine new fish to ensure they have no disease or parasitic problem before introducing into the display; therefore the time spent in this tank should be minimum and therefore requires minimum equipment.

I think a 10 gallon q-tank would be a good size, especially since you wont be using it for any large groupers or anything.

Yup, 10 gallon is good. Its cheap, usually easy to find at your nearby PetCo, PetSmart, etc. Just remember...if you use meds, do not dump any of the water from the QT tank to the main tank.

Let us know how the tank is doing
