Smile 6 Tangs in one tank...

Had a meeting over at an aquaintances house. He has 6 Tangs in his tank. They seem to get along OK.

Actually there are more like 10 tangs, but I couldn't get them all. There are at least 6 yellows alone.

Wink It's a little tiny tank..

I'm suprised there is any room for anything in this tank. ;)

Just wait until they're grown. Then he'll be wondering "what's wrong why did some of my tangs die, what's killed them". That tank is big, but it ain't that big. That's a future problem waiting to happen. Some of those tangs get very big. I wouldn't have put more than 5 or 6 depending on the size and temperment of each.

    Talking Your kidding right....

That tank is 5000 Gallons. It is 10 feet X 18 Feet X 4 Feet.

He has 6 Yellows, 2 Hippos and I don't know what the other 2 are.

So you normally only recommend 1 Tang per 1000 gallons?

The first picture shows a Zebrasoma flavescens, a Naso literatus and two Paracanthurus hepatus. The lone fish in the second picture is a Zebrasoma veliferum.

Sorry about that Steve, had a usergroup permission problem. You should be able to see them now.

Interesting! Those look like 1000 watt halides. With all that open top they must have quite a system for dealing with humidity. I wonder how many gallons of makeup water they use each day.

    Regards,
    Kevin
PS: Oh I like the tangs too!

    Viewing Area...

Where that picture was taken at is the best viewing area.

It is a home made tank and only has windows in the front. He has a 500 Gallon Sump directly in the back. A 4'X8'x2' Fuge. 2 Grow out tanks, best guess is 600 Gallons each. They look like giant Water Bottles with the tops cut off. He has a 400AMP Electrical room to power everything. I believe the skimmer is about 8 feet tall and 12" in diameter. His lighting is (2) 1000 watt Metal Halides over the main tank and a 1000 watt HID over the fuge. Grow out tank has VHO.

This is is third successively large tank he has made. The 1st about about 1000 gallons, his second was around 3000 gallons, and now this beast.

His monthly electrical bill is enough to bring a grown man to tears.

Hopefully we'll have more meetings at his house when he get's more of the tank completed.
