Sandbed Trade

I saw this on Reef Central. How about a Sandbed Trde between the members of Reefland?

The RC Thread is Here http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...hreadid=342486

I am by no means volunteering to be the collection point (will probably be moving in the next 3 months) but still think is a great idea.

Basically we all send about 1 pound of sand to a centralized point where it is mixed. Then the collection agent sends about a pound of sand back to us. of course we pay shipping each way. I do not know about you but I would love to have some of Reefland's or Scubadude's sand in my tank!!

Is there anyone out there willing to be the collector?

Ryan,

Interesting concept but a little too scary for me. The more unknown samples in the mix the greater the possibility of "catching something" unpleasant. Sort of like unprotected sex with 100 different partners.

So far I have managed to avoid flatworms and ich and I'd like to keep it that way. I have purchased live sand samples from five different sources but all of those were commercial and as far as I know none of them kept fish in the same tank. I guess flatworms were a possibility but I have lucked out so far. I might be receptive to swapping sand locally with a known source, meaning I get to see the other guy's tank and talk to him in person. The other idea sounds too much like group sex to me.

If you do it, be sure to come back and tell us how it worked out. (The sand swap, not the group sex!)

P.S. -- I definitely don't want anything from Scott (Reefland)! He's in the process of restarting his tank AGAIN due to the same problem red algae. I have my own problem red algae and I'm sure no one would want any of it either. It would be just my luck that everything alive in the sand sample would die during transport EXCEPT viable algae spores.

I'm down I was planning on setting up a trade this summer but have sold the 25gallon tank I was going to use to house the sand in.. If anyone is willing to hold the sand I'd be willing to ship a few cups over like we did on Reefcentral

I was going to take all of our livesand to the LFS that I got our rock but that red algae was everywhere in it when we were taking the tank down so I opted to toss it all over the fence with our rock.
