29 g stocking ideas

i plan on starting a 29 gallon mini reef. What kind of lighting should i buy? and also what about stocking ideas? thanks ? Also will i need a protein skimmer i plan on using 30 lbs. of large show size tonga live rock with an aragonite substarte. thanks

Hi guzzler, Welcome to Reefland!

I would include a protein skimmer in the design. Get something good like an AquaC Remora, don't hold back dollars on the skimmer.

Lighting for the tank should be determined by the coral you plan to keep. Soft corals and Large Polyped Corals will require PC or VHO. SPS, clams or a mixture including these will require Metal Halides. For a 29 gallon, a single 250w would be nice.

I agree. I use a 250 watt XM bulb on a single 29 gal. Perfect coverage.

what kind of corals and other inverts do you keep? also what kind of lighting do anemones require? and where can i get a 250w XM bulb and how much is it ?
