cpr bak pak

hey everyone

i just noticed today that its very dirty at the bottom of the chamber where the blue ribbon filter is. should i worry about cleaning this? or can i just leave it alone?
-it would be a real pain taking the bak pak off the back of the tank, then rinsing it off and filling it back up.

Yes I would remove the skimmer and clean it. Sounds like it is detritus that has settled in the bottom of the skimmer that, as in the case of the display, can lead to problems if left unattended.

Besides, you should include skimmer cleanings in your maintenance routines. Cleaning out the skimmer cup is not enough.

I hear ya loud and clear about the crud at the bottom of this skimmer. Almost looks like a mini sandbed sometimes. Ya it is a pain to take the skimmer off and clean it also. I usually only do a full cleaning every few months. But I empty most of the water from the skimmer and then what little water is left at the bottom of the skimmer with all of the crud I put it a small bucket. Usually there is tons of life in the crude. I then clean the skimmer and dump the crud in the refugium.
