Kalkwasser question....

Ok I set up a kalkwasser drip system but i dont know how fast i should be dripping it into the tank. I have a 65g tank and im just using a 1g jug for now but the instructions say dont drip more than 1/8 a gallon in a 50g tank per hour. I dont know about you guys but thats about as worthless of instructions as they come i think I have it running right now but its going really slow. I figured its better safe than sorry. To be more specific, its dripping a single drop about every 8 seconds. I finally got the C-balance in as well as this kalkwasser last week and I really want to start grabbing up a few sps frags if i get a chance so I want to make sure Ive got this set up and stable. Thanks for the help.
Jon
p.s. Gene Im working on getting those pics of my scwd on the net but I got a bit of a problem on my other comp. Says "Fatal system error" and wont let me even get to the main screen so once its fixed Ill toss those up.

dripping kalk

You can probably drip 100% topoff as kalk, but as long as the dripping comes from the clear part above the white powder settlement. So you need to see how much you are evaporating a day and slowly increase to establish that much drip/per/timeframe If you can control it to drip @ nite then it will probably stabilize yer PH better too. Just remember to use good clean RO or RO/DI water for your kalk mix. Your tank will probably stabilize alot nicer if you slowly ease into your drip rate thus acclimating better. I would wait a couple of days then test your alk and ca and ph levels within that time and see how much they have gone up and adjust levels accordingly. HTH

Hi Jon,

I hope you fix that fatal error soon and we all get to see how you did your scwd close loop thing

As far as kalk goes, I think Rocky nailed it for you

Thanks fellas, I havent been able to get at a computer at all this week im taking summer classes, three to be exact, and im runnin a 13 hr class schedule each day so been running my legs off. The kalk seems to be doing fine, by fine i meen no news is good news. Im dripping about a gallon a night of kalk and im dosing the c balance as well. My ca and alk are stable now. Its been almost 2 weeks of c balance and a week of the kalk, and the levels are around 500 ppm for calcium so i think everything seems like all is well. What do you suggest for a good piece of sps to start w/? I decided to bump up my rock height as well. I took some pvc and stacked the rock on top of it and around it and think its a bit more suitable. I have left plenty of room for the sps to grow but i thought id make sure its high enough now then later. if anyone in illinois has any frags for sale let me know or anyone willing to ship for that matter as well. Im a broke college student but if I end up w/ $ laying around Ill keep you in mind.
