Any Kalk Users??

If there are any Kalkwasser users out there please look into using the following pictured product. It is the exact same thing posted here:
http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merch...ory_Code=Kent2
and this is for 450g.

I got the pictured amount (453g) for less than $2.50 at my local Wal Mart.

Here is the Picture:

Now, yes I hate Wal-Mart (I work for Target), but you cannot deny the price. Kroger sells the same pickling lime in bags (Mrs. Wages) but the cardboard tube that this (Wal Mart or Balls) comes in seals the deal in my mind.

Either way it is better than the 18.99 my LFS charges for the large container of Kent Kalk!!! $9.95 on Premium Aquatics!!

If anyone out there wants me to post a pic of the Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime (Bag) I will do so. But time is limited. I just put the last bag in the trash!! Dumped it into my Ball's tube! (that sounds dirty???)

I have been using Ball's for 3 years and it works just fine.
On a side note you can also use it mixed as slurry to feed aiptasia anemones to kill them.

Regards,
Kevin

It is a seasonal item. Looking in Canning Suplies. I get everything I can in spring (about 30 cans) and use it though out the year. I use 5 heaping tea spoon for my tank everyday. One spoon per gallon of top off water.
Here in Corpus Christi, there is only one Grocery chain, only HEB. I just clean up everything they have every year in spring. I think they then order some more. I cannot believe that in a city this size, somebody got a monopoly on this business. We really suffer for it too. Banana lowest is 29 c per pound and Avacado price is 79 c each (in Houston Banana sell for 9 c and Avacado eight for one dollar.

I looked in one grocers canning section and could only find Balls Pickling Salt, not the same stuff. I have yet to look at the other super centers.

The only brands are Ball's and Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime. Make sure that 100% of the ingredients are calcium hydroxide.

You can order the stuff online if you can't find it locally: http://store.yahoo.com/mrswages/mrswagpiclim.html

I'm almost out of it now and when I checked the local Wal-Mart Super Center all they had was the stuff to make sweet pickles and it won't work because it contains other ingredients.

You can use either Ball's or Mrs. Wages pickling lime as long as it is 100% food grade calcium hydroxide with no additives or preservatives. The only difference between this stuff and the more expensive stuff sold under the German name is that the more expensive stuff is more refined. Both are 100% calcium hydroxide.

I just ordered 8 lbs. of Mrs. Wages for $14.80 plus $5.00 shipping = $19.80 total delivered.

Name Code Qty Each Options
-----------------------------------------------------------
MRS. WAGES Pickling Lime W502 8 1.85
16 oz.
Subtotal 14.80
Shipping 5.00
Tax 0.00
Total 19.80

It's usually a little cheaper than that at Wal-Mart but I don't feel like waiting for Wal-Mart to get it in stock.

Be sure to store it in a dry place. You might even want to transfer it out of the bags into a sealed canister of some sort. You want to keep out any moisture. This will be about a 3-yr supply for my little tank but at least I don't have to keep driving all over town looking for it now.

If there are any memebers from So Cal here who need kalk, I have a 50 pound bag of Food grade Calcium Hydroxide in my garage. Feel free to come by and grab a few zip loc baggies full. I had thirty 50# bags early in the year but they went pretty fast.

Talking

I just received the 8 lbs of Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime today. They even included a free bag of Mrs. Wages Salsa Mix. I wonder if my corals like Mexican food?

I can't find it locally and don't want to buy 8lbs at the moment; interested in sending me a freezer baggy full via USPS and I'll paypal you money for Priority Mail shipping?

Scott,

You do realize, of course, that 8 lbs. just happens to be the amount I decided to order. It comes in 1-lb. bags and you can order any amount you like. That might be almost the same as trying to get Mark to mail some to you.
