I have one that switch hits between a rose bulb and green bulb anenome. Really pisses my percula clown off because he can't seem to claim one.

Although Premnas biaculeatus described in Dr.Fautin's articla as having E.quadricolor as a host, mine is living happily with H.crispa aka Seabae anemone. My point being is that in my opinion this clownfish most likely will host in most of the anemones with long tentacles.

Entacmaea quadricolor (Bubble Tip Anemone) is the only natural host for Premnas biaculeatus (Maroon Clownfish).
However, according to Joyce Wilkerson in her excellent book, Clownfishes, P. biaculeatus in captivity usually accepts the following host anemones in addition to E. quadricolor:
Those are the only host anemones besides E. quadricolor that are listed as potential hosts for P. biaculeatus but individual fish may accept just about anything if they are so inclined. By far the best and most reliable host for P. biaculeatus would be E. quadricolor based on their natural relationship and because of the fact that it is easier to maintain in captivity than any of the other host anemones. Another factor to take into consideration is the fact that E. quadricolor readily reproduces in captivity by cloning and therefore captive breeding of this anemone lessens the demand for wild-collected specimens.

If your Percula Clownfish does accept a bubble tip anemone, it will be the exception to the rule. There are a few such reports on the boards but there are far more reports of rejection.

when I came home tonight my BTA (bubble Tip Anenome) split! I noticed it was stretched pretty wide. About an hour later I had two! Twins! LOL! My maroon clown is a little confused now, which one to hide in. Its cute!
![]() Hopefully if they spread to different parts of the tank I can get another clown for the newly split one. Kenn |
