25G Tall Recomendations

Gonna convert my 25g hospital to a reef. Need recommendations.

First, the tank is 18" tall - is this good or bad for a reef - will the light intesity not hit lower areas of the tank.

Here are my thoughts:

25g Tall Tank
Ecosystem 40 Filtration (no skimmer)
2 Maxijets
Heater
4" DSB
50lbs live rock

Question is what lighting should I use? I'm thinking maybe PCs but is there a MH/PC combo that comes prebuilt in some type of canopy (24") - I dont want to DIY it.

Gonna keep 'beginners' stuff - polyps, shrooms, colt, plate, leathers, etc.

Thanks,

Jeff

I know you said you didnt' want to DIY it, but http://www.ahsupply.com has great deals on PC lighting.

I also have a 25 gallon tall that is 24 inches in length and a little higher is height. They have a $149 special for a premade hood and 2X55 PCs one 03 actinic and 10000k bulb. YOu get everything with it, including the bulbs.

I couldn't resist it so i bought it for my 25 gallon reef. If you will only keep the corals you mention above, 2X55 PC lighting is fine for that tank. After you place the sandbed down, it will decrease the height, so the PC lighting should be enough to penetrate that.

However, you can go all out and get one 250 WATT MH and maybe one PC actinic, but that will cost more and you will have to deal with heat problems (fans, etc.)

Regards,
Ilham

Jeff,
I wouldn't waste my time making a reef out of a show tank, you really need the width for a reef. When your dealing with a tank that small the cost is very little. Why not wait and find another tank more suited for a reef.......
