New Corals

I thought I would post some pictures of some new SPS corals that I received yesterday from Rainbow Corals. This is my 3rd or 4th order from Jim and like the rest, this was a great shipment.

A. formosa - Purple frag about 2.5":

Unknown A. sp. - Peach frag with blue tips about 2" tall with several branches:

A. valida - Deep purple tips, this coral is about 3" x 3":

A. tenius - This coral is about 4" tall and is very good sized with blue tips:

Hey Scott,

Wow, they look better in your tank. Glad they all made it and looking very nice. What happened to the other blue yongei? Did it make it?

Thanks again for your order...

Oh, here's the short bad news, I'm having some network heart-ache and will have it fix soon.

Thanks
Jim

Jim,

The A. yongei made it just fine and is still doing great, but I couldn't get a picture of it wihout it being totally white, so I didn't post it so I didn't have to explain that it wasn't bleached and was actually sky blue in coloration.

Hi Scott,

Glad to hear. That is a hard piece to take a picture. I have a suharsonoi that is sky blue and my camera has a hard time getting a good focus, let a lone barely show the blue.

Thanks for the update.

Jim

Those Look GREAT Scott!!!

As far as the one you are having trouble taking a pic of... Try and use Exposure compensation on your camera... -1 to -2 should help.

When you get ready to frag those guys, in a year or so... Make sure to let me know!~

Where can I find that option on this diposable camera?

No really, I didn't know if our Kodak Digital camera had that option or not but low and behold, there was one and you were right, it worked out very well.

Cool picture. Scott, if the frag do start to show brown, move it lower in light. I was able to get it to go sky blue under T5 alone. Under the MH, it started to show some brown color. I believe was a deep water stag that never adjusted well to MH lamp.

Jim,

Thanks for the advice. Right now it is about 3/4 down from the surface and slightly shaded from an overhang which I was worried about, maybe it will actually be good though.

Markk96,

The tank is totally bare-bottom. Prior to us redoing the tank it had a 4"+ DSB however I couldn't get the flow in it that I wanted without a mess so when we re-established the tank in May, we went bare-bottom. Right now we have about 3,100 gph running through it and Monday (if FedEx delivers) we will be adding an additional 1,600 gph. Couldn't run 4,700 gph in a 75 gallon reef with a DSB.

For the record, if I had a larger system, 180 gallons +, I would do a DSB again.

I am going to do the same for my 75 Gallon. I want to take it down remove the sand and then put everything back in. I dont like my 4 1/2" DSB, I want more flow.

Obviously the lack of any sand bed causes more maintenance to get rid of the detritus however the ability to add the flow will, for the most part, keep the detritus in suspension for removal.

Glad that trick worked for you, with the exposure compensation... Amazing what the camera's can do when you know how to use them huh?
