Bright Yellow Acropora sp.

Who's got one?

Michelle and I am interested in locating a bright yellow Acropora sp. for our reef. I'm not really into the Porites although I know yellow can easily be found, we're looking for some type of Acropora.

Scott, stag or colony type?? Does it matter??? I don't know if you have a slimer yet, but some of them do come in a bright yellow as compared to the green you see so much.

I have got a nice yellow millepora frag that has intense green polyps with pink edged corallites. The yellow really shows through the green poylps plus you can see the pink too. Down side is it needs another month probably before I can get a frag off of it. Up side it is the fastest growing thing I have right now.

The growth form really makes no difference. We have a Slimer but it has turned gree, very green under our 20k lights, as has our older Yellow Millipora frag. We picked up a new one this weekend, hopefully it will remain yellow.

Yeah, Scott, I just saw the new pics. I have no experience with 20k's but if those other corals have morphed green then it may be what this one does somewhere down the line. I'm pleasantly surprised that most colors I had never had before with those iwasaki's have held under these 10k's.

Hello all.. LTNS
IME there are very few (if any) yellow SPS that wont go green under 20kk lighting. I have a few under sakis that are still yellow, but will go green under 20KK.

Hey Rod,

That is what I think will happen to the yellow milliepora that we just picked up. All of the digita that we have that used to be yellow has turned very bright green.

Yellow is a very hard color to come by when it comes to Acropora. I was lucky to aquire a true yellow A. nobilis. It's been keeping its color well directly under a 400wt 10,000k Ushio.

I have 3-4 bright yellow corals but they were green ones that were forced yellow under intense lighting (400W 10,000K driven by a HQI ballast and located about 20" below the bulb).

Regards,
Kevin

I think the 10k spectrum is more condusive to keeping the yellow coloration or maybe it all boils down to tank conditions. The yellow millepora I got from you, Kevin has retained the yellow and the yellow millepora w/green polyps and pink edged corallites I found locally has also held the nice, intense yellow coloration. These are yellow like bright yellow.

Hi Rod......

I think so too.(FWIW) That and distance from the light source. The yellow milli is dark green when place 30-36" from the bulb.

Regards,
Kevin

Scott, this was a small frag I found locally when I reset my 120g up. It had maybe 3 small branches. In less than 10 weeks it's easily 3 times the size it was. The color has intensified in a major way.

While polyps are out it has the bright yellow tips and intense green polyps and to see the pink edged corallites you have to make the coral retract the polyps. Yesterday had some friends over and I was pointing this frag out and describing the colors and they laughed. Ah-Ha, I said... I swished my hand and the polyps went back in and they stopped laughing real quick.

I also have a frag of RobZ's pink millepora with yellow tips and green polyps. The difference is his millepora is solid pink.

Can you tell I'm a millepora freak......

Here is a true yellow acro that I have had for over a 1 yr. It has held it's yellow color under 10K and 20k.
