Question Foxface Rabbit fish

Hello,

I just bought a foxface rabbit fish. I have heard that they are reef safe. Now that i have one, I checked some sites and they say that they are not reef safe. Anyone have experience with these fish?

Most of them are reef-safe. Individual fish may cause a few problems but they are about as reef-safe as most tangs.

Thank you for the info. Do you know how big they get?

According to fishbase, maximum size is about 9" TL: http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Spec...sname=vulpinus

They grow fast. I have had mine for about 10 months and he has easily tripled in mass from the little thing that he was when I first got him. Total length of mine right now is probably about 5.5" but he is very full bodied for a rabbitfish.

If you tell me which one exactly did you get I'll tell you how big they get

For instance, if you got Siganus(Lo) vulpinus or Siganus(Lo) unimaculatus, bot grow to about 25cm in length or roughly 12". Some other species can get as large as 40cm in length so you can understand why I asked about the species

PS. Ooops, sorry George, we must've tyoed at the same time but you abviously are much faster typer then I am and I see that I had missed that it is fox-face rabbitfish.

You also missed the conversion of 25 cm to inches. Which is surprising considering that I am sure you were taught the metric system in school instead of the system we were taught.

P.S. -- Fishbase gives it as 24 cm (9.4") for S. vulpinus and 20 cm (7.9") for S. unimaculatus.

I have a foxface in both my tanks. My 120g which is an sps/clam tank and the foxface in it is as reef safe as anything. This fish is extremely shy and will about flip out of the tank when starled which doesn't seem to take much to do. They are an algae cleaning machine. The 1 in my 180g is a big one and like Ninong said, mine are very full bodied too.

You must have a baby foxface. I bet it's as cute as they come. They are a beautiful fish and will become very at home in your reef system.
