tank backgrounds

hey everyone

i was wondering how do some people get that light blue look for their backgrounds? is it just a background where u tape down? or is it somehow painted on? and if i wanted to paint a background like that on mine, would it be safe? would the toxic fumes from the paint screw up my whole tank? or do some just paint that light blue color onto a peice of plywood and put it onto the back of their tanks?

nvm...someone please delete this thread, it is really not worth even being a thread, i should not have posted this, all i had to do was search "backgrounds" in the search and i found a lot. sorry for the trouble, wont happen again.

I found some light blue vinyl at WalMart that was supposed to be for picknick table material (I think). It cost about $3-$4. I just taped it to the back of the tank. That was back in '96. It's still going strong today.

HTH,
Kevin

WE used some black felt material from Wal-Mart and attached it with super glue along the top and bottom trim of the tank, no problems at all.

Ours is actually painted on. I believe we bought it from Menards

Most are painted on. I used spray paint on my old tank and used water based latex on my last one just cause it was the only way I could, being that the tank was setup and very hard to move then. Walmart sells acrylic spray paint used for modeling that is suppose to be very good.

Sure, just remove the filters and anything that may draw the fumes into the water, and then tape some heavy plastic over the top to be sure the fumes can't just fall in. Make sure you seal the edges good. Well, that's all assuming spray paint.... if you want to use a brush paint, just remove the filter and place a damp cloth or towel over the tank.

I rolled on several coats and covered my canopy with a couple damp towels. Good luck.

Don't apologize 769! I'm glad you started this thread. I'm going to steal Scotts idea! Scott, the super glue fumes is nothing to worry about on an established system as long as I don't drip it in the water or something stupid like that?

I painted the back of my tank a very dark blue. Used acrylic paint. Took a bunch of coats but looks very nice now. Just tape up the edges and cover the top with a damp towel. Good luck.

No I wouldn't worry about it Tie. Besides all it takes is a couple of small dots of glue to hold it on.
