I'm sorry for your loss Ninong. Looking at the pictures I can definately see why people would want to keep this animal. Do you think that corals one day will have some sort of pedigree paperwork? I think it's important to keep accurate records of your animals and where they came from, could have some positive impact one day on not only the hobby but the natural ecosystem.

Good point Samper. I write down every frag or coral I get in, who it came from and what the frag looked like after shipping. Steve Tyree arguably the first sps keeper and the knower of all things acro. has records of all the extra special acropora's he has, he brings in, grows out and is someone who could probably tell all of us where most of our sps originated.www.dynamicecomorphology.com www.reefkeepers.com

Nice, thanks for the link suet. Curious question, are there regulations on what can be kept and what can't? I know some people have some things that would be considered extremely rare in the wild, also some animals with very specialized needs. Any thoughts on that issue?

Samper, there are some sps{and I'm only speaking about sps cause thats what I know} that are more rare species, like the tortuosa, that are highly prized sps pieces. Some get on these waiting lists and wait for years on them to get a frag of a certain coral. If thats the only way to get it, then we do what we must. LOL.. I have been very selective in my tank with what frags I have gotten and I know what each one is species wise. Some of these acropora or montipora are more rare only due to the limited availability of them. The ones you see every day are not as highly sought after but makes them none the prettier.

I hope this was what you meant...

Yeah that's what I wanted to know for the most part. Always finding something else in the hobby that peaks my interest. Really keeps me busy.

Geneology is something that I hope to add to the Online Aquarium Log in a future version.

I'm going to bring this thread back up.

To our surprise, today while we were feeding our fish, Michelle noticed something in the corner overflow; low-and-behold it was our Black Cap Basslett. This guy has been living happily, unoticed in our overflow for over 2 months! After about 45 minutes of work, I was able to scoop him out and add him back to our display.

It's very cool! We were both very upset when the fish turned up missing because we had grown quite fond of him in the 3 weeks we had him. We are glad to have our friend home, even though he never left.

    Scott,

That is indeed very cool. I had a eight line wrasse that did this constantly and I would find him in an overflow box couple of days later. After I fish him out he would jump back in few days later...untill he missed and jumped too far :eek3:

Glad to hear your basslet is fine and alive and kicking, I bet Michelle is thrilled
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

Indeed she is. In our case, he did not jump (I don't think) but flowed into the overflow through 2 larger opens we knocked out trying to get our overflow to accept as much volume as possible.
