hert fish

at what point must a fish come out of a tank because its been hert. i just added today a new black cap and about 2/5 of his tail has been niped of and has a few maks on his side also with your alls expereans how long does it take the other fish in your tanks to calm down and start excepting a new fish. i dont want the fish to die and i think taking him out and puting him in a nother tank might strees him out even more he has fond a good hiding place and has been in their most of the rest of the day what do you all think???

Neal359,

What other inhabitants do you have? If it's been only 1 day, and he's found a good "hiding spot", I say let him stay. I remember adding our Hippo Tang to our 72g with a "resident" Purple Tang who "kicked the CR@P" outta him for a couple of days. It got to the point where I too considered moving the poor little guy. After 2-3 days, things settled down and they got along fine. Just watch over him. Again, what other fish do you have? They do establish a "pecking order" you know. HTH

Neal,

You might want to consider placing relevant information in your profile(just a suggestion), because my next question is:

What size tank? If it's large enough and your new addition has found a safe spot, I still say(I know it's hard...I've been there) give it time. Everyone should settle down in a day or two. Tangs can be real "buttheads" to new fish. JMO

i was always under the impresion that filling out the profile would be suficiant and that it is used to help people out so each time the put in a post they didnt have to type in each type of fish they may have. it would definitaly be a drag for some one that hade a 200+ tank to sit down and righ out each type of fish they have that could take a looooong time, not trying to be nasty because mine is not corect as uf this weekend moved everythin to a bigger tank

Thats cool Neal,

It's just that I did check out your profile and didn't see anything in it. That's all.
