The newest state-of-the-art reef specimens...

...for your reef aquarium. Not only do they look real and feel real, they glow in the dark, too!

Ooooh, Ahhhh ..... Hmm, I guess I'd better tell my real anemone's that they're slacking... that they need to glow in the dark to look "REAL" .. Somehow, I don't think they're going to be very impressed

I suppose there is always going to be a market for that sort of thing tho... same as with plastic plants... The people who don't have the time nor inclination to actually care for them can just pretend they do

Especially if used in conjunction with their salt mix

I wonder if hobbyists keeping these new state-of-the-art, glow-in-the-dark anemones will report bleaching problems when switching from Instant Ocean to Crystal Sea? Will they glow less?

I couldn't post that ad directly on Reef Central because it is a .jpg file so I posted it here and linked it over there. Anyway, Habib made the comment that maybe Tim Hovanec used plastic sea urchin larvae in his about-to-be-published study. I assume this is the study that he said he was starting well over a year ago. I guess he wanted to be sure he got it right.

I'll be interested to hear it from the horse's mouth if I get to talk to him at MACNA.
Tim were talking something in that regard at the IMAC but I left early to hear someone else talk

Yes, from what I have heard, he did discuss his criticism of Shimek's salt mix study in Chicago. I guess you missed it.

hummm.. thats kind of a bad statement.......

my reef runs at 86 degrees 24 hours a day........... corals are beautiful, fish live great........
have always stayed in and around that temp......
Ask Scott....Reefland...... i may have never had the most beautiful tank due to money constraints.....
but there is no problem running 80+ temps...........

Whats the temp and salinity of NSW at the major reefs???

I keep many types of corals and when temperature reached 85F several corals began to RTN at 86F several more did. The majority of the corals were fine at those temps but for a very diverse population of corals I would recommend staying at 84F down to 76F. Fish will also live longer at lower temperatures as they are cold blooded animals and their metabolism speeds up with increased temp.

As for the plastic anemone I think they may be a good alternative for people that don't have the lighting if clownfish will host in them. I may have to get a couple just to find out

Kevin

Great IDEA!!! I wish I would have just bought all those PLASTIC corals intead of the live ones too... that way I would only have to scrub them clean from the Algae growth once a week...

By the way my tank seems to stay at 81 or so ALL THE TIME
