i dont know if there is such a thing as a false emerald crab. but i have a hitchhiker crab that looks exactly like the emerald crab except it is brown not green and its legs are not hairy. any one know if this crab is reef safe? i caught it and put it in my sump until i find out what to do with it. any info would be very much appreciated. thanks.

if he looked like this guy, it's another form of mithrax (emerald) crab.
they generally have the same temperment as the greens & eat all the nasty nuisance algae just as well. there are a couple of other mithrax types that can get pretty big tho' (3"+ carapace) so keep an eye on it. |
