nano testing

alright well this nano has been up about 2 weeks and 5 days. and the test results read.

Nitrite-0.10 ppm
Nitate-30 ppm
ammonia-0.0 ppm

does this seem to be almost cycled? or if its already cycled, should i do a water change to eliminate the high nitrates, nitrites? all i have in there now are 3 peices of LR and im not sure how many lbs but its not many becuase they are small rocks.

Almost cycled maybe but not yet cycled. If you have a Nitrite reading the tank isn't cycled.

I would agree with Scott here... but as a tip, I would say add some of the water from your other tank as a 'booster' dose of bacteria... Should speed things up a bit.

I hate to disagree with you Barb but I think that systems should be seperate. This way if you have some unforseen problem brewing in one you won't cross contaminate to the other.

Well, in theory you have a valid point, but considering this is a cycling tank, and there is no livestock to worry about, the bacteria could only be beneficial. It's just like trading live sand with other reefers, or even buying it online... Diversity is the key. I would agree with not doing it if there are problems with the other tank, but if it is healthy, it shouldn't be an issue.

But it's ok to disagree with me, we all have our own theories... It's kind of like raising kids..... Everything works ... for someone... somewhere..... You just have to find out what tricks work for you! (and in the long run you will have NO idea how you're doing until it's wayyyyyyyyy too late to change your mind )

That's why I won't mix systems, sometimes problems are unseen in one and you go mixing and matching then 4 months down the road you have two jacked up instead of just the one. I know a lot of people do it but for reefer and the problems he has had in the past I would say just let it cycle and stand alone. Would be a neat experiment for him to watch and witness how every system is different.
As with seed sand and things along that nature I was advised by Ninong to only use it if you can see the system it came from and know the good and bad things to look for to help decide if you wanna use it. I would imagine that a year or more old established system would be the best bet.
