Did you let the red slime/cyanobacteria cover the corals that died

I don't think that's what killed your snails and hermits but if you wanna get rid of it you will need to aim a powerhead at the trouble spots and use a turkey baster to suck out what blows off, I have 3 maxi jet 1200's a maxi jet 400 and a small carbon filter on just a 20 gallon. Since I upped my flow with the maxi's I have had no cyano problems.

SOunds like you might have used some kind of medication or chemical to try and get rid of the cyano, was that the case? What exactly have you done to try to erradicate it?

^^
if that isnt the case.. then a toxin of another sort was introduced, that your tank effectivally removed.

do you use aresols to air freshen the house? windex on the tank? carpet fresh, any kind of aresol cleaner in on or around the tank?
I know you will say no to all these questions... cause nobody with a reef cleans ( i have worked at a LFS for many years)
or you had a good friend dump a bit of something in there to help the fishies and corlas get drunk too.........

Unhappy Kids?

I've heard of a guy who's tank was dying a little at a time. He couldn't figure it out. Nothing made since. He ended up tearing it down & found what looked to be a corroded penny in the live rock. He thought maybe one of his kids threw it in there.

Well my son threw in a GI Joe once but I caught it on time, no more than 30 seconds later. That penny incident sounds right. Dont tear your tank up, but do a very good and close check.

my water level was dropping. i figured it was evaporation. so i dumped water back in my salt tank evey day.... eventually my fish started dying and could not figure out why. in about a month i decided to check my salinity. it was reading 1.016 .i was pissed off i lost all my fish everything in a 100 gal tank. the problem was later discovered. a small drip in the overflow plumbing was dripping water onto my basement floor-i did not notice

with exsperience comes knowledge......

Vodka is sometimes used in denitrators. Denitrators are big in Germany. Do a search.
